Hypnosis is a state of focused attention in which wider environmental stimuli may be ignored. It could be called a trance state, or merely a daydream.
It commences with a deep relaxation. As the mind relaxes, the brain’s focus moves towards the regions of the brain where creativity and solutions-based thinking can occur and away from areas associated with the more instinctive stress responses of anger and anxiety.
Trance / hypnosis is very ordinary in many ways. We go in and out of hypnosis, daydream, throughout the day. We can be in a trance when listening to music, watching a film, driving a motor car or when we are deeply in thought. If you think about daydreams, we are acutely focused and the mind cuts out the things not within the daydream. This is how hypnotherapy works, helping you focus your mind on positive change.
During sessions, the therapist uses that focused state of awareness and positive suggestion to help the client achieve their specific positive goals.
When we have a specific goal in mind and when we apply ourselves to the acquisition of that goal in a state of focused awareness, all the abilities of our conscious mind, and more importantly, the resources of the subconscious mind are activated in the pursuit of that goal. This is how hypnotherapy works, tapping into both conscious and subconscious resources to help you achieve lasting transformation.
No-one can be hypnotised against their will. Even when in trance, people can still reject any suggestion given, if it does not align with or does not support what they want to achieve.
No. Hypnotherapy is nothing like stage hypnosis. You are always in full control of everything you say and do.
It is absolutely fine if after a session or two you decide it is not right for you.
You will find out more in the Initial Consultation about the whole process, and also some useful information, which is very likely to help you understand more about the human brain and why you are feeling as you do.
We understand that each individual must find what works best for them.
Yes – online hypnotherapy is just as effective as in-person sessions.
You will just need to consider your environment for the on-line sessions. Do you have somewhere suitable, where privacy is assured and where you will not be interrupted?
For the hypnosis element you will also need a sofa / bed / comfortable armchair or even a comfortable exercise / yoga mat to relax back on. It’s also a good idea to have a warm blanket to pull over you and you will need a reasonably good internet connection for the session.
